Experience Regensburg from Above: Trinity Church, Tower, and Diplomatic Cemetery
The Evangelical Trinity Church combines early Baroque architecture, Protestant city history, and an impressive view over the Regensburg old town. From March 28 to November 1, 2026, this historic site invites you to a special examination of space, architectural art, and memory culture.
Early Baroque Architecture with Extraordinary Spatial Effect
The Trinity Church was built between 1627 and 1631 according to plans by Hanns Carl and is one of the early Evangelical-Lutheran church buildings in Bavaria. The column-free hall structure with surrounding wooden galleries follows the Lutheran principle of providing all believers with an unobstructed view of the altar and pulpit. The barrel vault suspended in the roof structure is a testament to an impressively innovative construction technique for the era.
Climbing the Tower with a View over the Regensburg Old Town
The stairs of the church tower lead to an extraordinary aesthetic experience. At the top, the view opens up to roofs, towers, and the historic skyline of Regensburg. The exhibition atmosphere here arises not from individual exhibits, but from the interplay of architecture, height, light, and urban panorama. The tower view makes the city's history immediately tangible.
The Diplomatic Cemetery as a Monument of European History
Behind the church lies the Diplomatic Cemetery, which is considered the only preserved diplomat cemetery. The magnificent grave monuments of Protestant envoys of the Eternal Diet refer to the political and confessional significance of Regensburg. Their stone forms connect Baroque representation with personal memory, making the place a compelling testimony to European cultural history.
Cultural Education between Church, Art, and City History
The visit opens up diverse perspectives on painting, sculpture, architecture, and sepulchral culture. Choir stalls, high altar, organ, grave monuments, and the constructive features of the church space can be interpreted as a cohesive cultural ensemble. The curation of the visitor experience follows the historic site itself: every viewpoint conveys new connections between faith, power, craftsmanship, and social memory.
Opening Hours and Admission
The Trinity Church and the Diplomatic Cemetery are open from Tuesday to Sunday from 12 PM to 6 PM; the church is closed on Mondays. Entry to the church and the Diplomatic Cemetery is free. For climbing the tower, an entry fee starts at 3 euros. Due to church events, the tower may occasionally be closed.
This art experience combines historical architecture, sacred atmosphere, Baroque grave art, and a wide view over Regensburg. Those who want to not just read but experience the city’s history in space, material, and light will find an exceptional place for an inspiring examination at the Trinity Church. A visit enhances cultural education and provides a lasting aesthetic experience.
