INFINITY in Regensburg: When light makes the space resonate
In the Minoritenkirche of the Historical Museum Regensburg, baroque sound architecture inspired by Johann Sebastian Bach merges with stunning 360° projections for the world premiere of INFINITY. The Zurich artist collective PROJEKTIL transforms the Gothic vault into a stage for infinity, perception, and time – an art experience that intensifies the exhibition atmosphere with music, light, and spatial effects into an aesthetic experience.
Light, stone, sound: An exploration of the work in space
Finely modulated light probes medieval stone, traces ribs, pillars, and window arches, and sets the architectural structure of the mendicant order church in motion. Fields of stars, glowing mists, and visual zooms open imaginary depths; geometric shapes arise, dissolve, and fade away. Installation, video mapping, and animation intertwine – a curatorially precise composed spatial installation.
Two versions, one theme: infinity
INFINITY appears in the versions 'Contemplation' (illumination to music) and 'Inspiration' (with spoken impulses). Both versions address the human theme of infinity between cosmology, philosophy, and theology, leading to a quiet contemplation of the work where sound color, image rhythm, and church space merge into a harmonious form.
Special Nights and city tour plus show
Selected 'Special Nights' expand the format to a 45-minute long version with live music – precisely tailored to the visual dramaturgy. On Fridays and Saturdays, a tour of the Minoritenkirche and through the eastern old town deepens the cultural-historical context; admission to the show is included. Thus, cultural education connects with an immersive art encounter.
Visiting practice: Duration, access, photography rules
The performance lasts about 30 minutes, and the number of visitors is limited. Beanbags, lounge cushions, and chairs are available (free seating). Barrier-free access is through the main entrance of the Historical Museum; entry at the west portal of the church. Photography and filming without flash and tripod are permitted for non-commercial purposes (maximum three minutes of video material).
Voices of the visitors
Visitor reactions are clear: INFINITY delights art lovers. On Instagram, it says: 'Light, Bach, and Gothic vault – a journey into infinity.' On Facebook, a visitor raves: 'These projections make the church space breathe – contemplative yet electrifying.'
Conclusion: Those who want to experience the Minoritenkirche as a living total work of art will find in INFINITY a rare interplay of painting with light, audiovisual poetry, and historical architecture. An evening appointment between dusk and night is ideal for savoring the spatial effect – definitely visit live.
