Monsta: Playful Monster Research for Little Theater Fans

When something rustles under the bed and mysterious scratch marks appear, a fantastical expedition starts at the Young Theater Regensburg: Monsta brings children from four years old right into the world of monsters, creepy feelings, and courage. The approximately 45-minute puppet theater performance based on the eponymous children's book by Dita Zipfel combines puppetry, masks, shadow play, and humorous stage performance into a unique concert experience without a musical focus, but with plenty of rhythm, movement, and live atmosphere.

On the Trail of Rare Monsters

Two monsterologists embark on a quest with the audience to search for the mysterious beings. Furry tufts in the foyer, scratch marks at the cloakroom, and puzzling observations provide clues. With fright experiments, scream tutorials, and monster gymnastics, the researchers try to attract the shy creatures.

Getting Spooked, Wondering, and Becoming Brave

The production plays with childish imagination and familiar fears, without overwhelming the young audience. Masks, puppets, and shadow plays create a sensory stage world where surprise and humor capture the tension. Thus, a child-friendly theater experience emerges, playfully addressing questions about fear, courage, and the unknown.

Imaginary Stage Performance for Families

Monsta was staged as a Regensburg premiere for children aged four and up. Directed by Benedikt Grubel, with set design by Yasmin Attar. The production was created in collaboration with the State Theater Württemberg-Hohenzollern Tübingen Reutlingen. The eponymous book by Dita Zipfel was awarded the German Youth Literature Prize in 2020.

A Successful Puppet Theater Piece

The Mittelbayerische Zeitung described the Regensburg premiere as a completely successful, exciting pleasure and highlighted the child-friendly play ideas, costumes, and surprises. The audience's mood thrives on curious glances, brief fright moments, and liberating laughter – just the right dose of spookiness for younger theatergoers.

Conclusion: Facing the Monster Together
