The Wizard of Oos: A Magical Journey for the Whole Family
When the curtain rises at the Akademietheater Regensburg, an adventurous journey full of friendship, courage, and fantasy begins for children aged six and up. The Wizard of Oos by Lyman Frank Baum takes the audience into a mysterious land where wishes, fears, and dreams blend into a colorful stage world.
A Journey to the Land of Wishes
Dorothy unexpectedly lands in Oos and longs to go home. On her way to the Emerald City, she encounters three unusual companions: a scarecrow who longs for brains, a tin man without a heart, and a fearful lion who wishes to be brave. Together, they face dangers and solve tasks that seem insurmountable alone.
Production with Imagination and Joy of Play
The production by Oliver Severin combines acting, music, and visual stage poetry. The set and drawings by Martina Topp, makeup by Sabine Hierl, and the stage construction by Reinhold Bauer and Helmut Schreier create the scenic framework for a world between fairy tale and adventure. Musical direction and composition are by Julian Wejwar; the witch's song will also be integrated live into the theater atmosphere.
Friendship as a Dramaturgical Compass
At the center of the dramaturgy is the understanding that personal wishes gain new strength through collective action. The encounters with the scarecrow, tin man, and lion transform the fantastic journey into a touching story about solidarity, courage, and moving forward despite uncertainty. The stage experience is aimed at children aged six and up, inviting families to accompany the characters on their journey through Oos.
An Afternoon Full of Stage Magic
The performance begins on Sunday, October 11, 2026, at 2:00 PM at the Akademietheater Regensburg. The duration of the performance is about 90 minutes including intermission. A colorful stage design, characterful costumes, musical accents, and the immediate proximity of the theater create an intense family experience.
Conclusion: The Wizard of Oos promises an imaginative children's and youth theater performance with strong imagery, humorous characters, and a timeless message about friendship and courage. Those who wish to experience fairy tale theater live will find a journey at the Akademietheater Regensburg that resonates long after the final applause.
