ART AFFAIR GmbH & Co. KG | Gallery & Exhibitions

ART AFFAIR GmbH & Co. KG stands for modern and contemporary art in an extraordinary historical setting. The gallery is located at Neue-Waag-Gasse 2 in the heart of Regensburg and combines the atmosphere of the medieval old town with a diverse selection of current art. Those searching for ART AFFAIR Regensburg, ART AFFAIR photos, or a gallery for modern art in Regensburg will find a place where painting, sculpture, object art, installation, drawing, photography, and design engage in dialogue.

The uniqueness of the gallery lies not only in the exhibited works but also in their spatial impact. ART AFFAIR was opened in 2005 in the Gothic house chapel of the Altmann House. The exhibition space of approximately 170 square meters provides a framework in which historical architecture and contemporary positions meet directly. This creates a presentation situation that is distinctly different from a neutral white cube. Artworks are not perceived in isolation from their surroundings but relate to vaults, materials, light, and history.

The gallery program is aimed at art enthusiasts, collectors, curious visitors, and people who want to get to know modern art more intensively for the first time. ART AFFAIR sees the gallery as a place of communication and encounter. Exhibitions are complemented by personal conversations, individual consultations, and artist talks. The stated opening hours apply from Tuesday to Friday with a lunch break and on Saturday. Visits are also possible by appointment.

ART AFFAIR Regensburg and the History of the Gallery

The history of ART AFFAIR in Regensburg began in 2005. At that time, the gallery was opened in the Gothic house chapel of the Altmann House. The historic rooms continue to shape the appearance and perception of the gallery today. With an exhibition area of about 170 square meters, ART AFFAIR is one of the specialized art venues in the Regensburg old town, where contemporary art is presented in an architecturally striking framework.

Since its founding, more than 90 exhibitions have been realized. This number shows that ART AFFAIR is not conceived as a static sales space but as a continuously operating exhibition venue. Changing presentations allow for different artistic signatures to be made visible and bring new themes, materials, and perspectives into the gallery time and again. The exhibitions can be dedicated to individual positions or connect multiple artists. This creates a program that allows for both in-depth insights into individual works and comparative considerations.

A central idea of the gallery is to select special art from the diversity of the present and to place regional trends in an international context. Therefore, ART AFFAIR does not exclusively show well-known names but also strives to present young and lesser-known artists. These can appear in group or solo exhibitions alongside already established artists. The combination of experience, discovery, and personal mediation is an important part of the gallery profile.

The development of the company is also closely linked to personal leadership. The official imprint lists Karl-Friedrich Krause and Christopher Lüttgens as owners. A company portrait by the IHK Regensburg describes that Christopher Lüttgens runs the gallery together with his father and that the company has been increasingly focused on art trade and a younger program structure since the early 2020s. The Regensburg gallery remained the original location and was complemented by another location in Munich in 2026.

For visitors, this development means that ART AFFAIR presents itself as both tradition-conscious and contemporary-oriented. The historic rooms anchor the gallery in the history of Regensburg, while the changing program, international orientation, and art trade focus on current art production. It is precisely from this tension that the place derives its identity: old architecture forms the backdrop for works that engage with contemporary images, ideas, materials, and societal themes.

Gallery for Modern Art in Historical Spaces

Those who visit ART AFFAIR experience modern art not in an arbitrary exhibition space. The gallery is located in Gothic rooms, whose architectural atmosphere significantly influences the exhibition visit. Historic walls, vaults, and the special spatial effect create an environment where artworks can be read differently than in a completely neutral presentation space. A painting can respond to the structure of the masonry, a sculpture can gain presence through the vault, and an installation can directly incorporate the character of the room.

This connection of place and art is particularly fitting for Regensburg. The city is characterized by a historic center where the past and present stand closely side by side. ART AFFAIR does not merely take up this situation decoratively. Rather, a concrete encounter arises between the history of the building and the current positions on display. Visitors can thus understand how contemporary art operates in a historical context and what new relationships between work, space, and observation emerge.

The program includes various forms of expression. These include painting, object art, installation, drawing, and photography. This spectrum is complemented by sculptures and works from the field of design. The gallery features, among others, artists such as Markus Lüpertz, Willi Siber, Zaha Hadid, and Ron Arad in connection with its program. At the same time, there is a focus on presenting artists whose works process recognizable motifs and ideas in different artistic media.

The diversity of techniques makes ART AFFAIR accessible to different interests. Those interested in classical image compositions can engage with painting and drawing. Those who focus on material, volume, and surface will find points of connection in sculpture and object art. Photography opens access through perception, documentation, and staging, while installations often incorporate the entire space as part of the artwork. Design works expand the view on the connection between function, form, material, and cultural significance.

Particularly important to the gallery is the craftsmanship aspect. Art is not conveyed here solely through names or market value but also through the quality of execution, the handling of materials, and the consistency of an artistic idea. For visitors, this can be a helpful perspective, as they can view works not only spontaneously emotionally but also based on their craftsmanship and conceptual structure.

ART AFFAIR Exhibitions, Artists, and Art Program

The exhibition program of ART AFFAIR is focused on changing encounters with modern and contemporary art. According to the IHK Regensburg, the gallery realizes an average of four to six exhibitions per year per location. This provides regular new occasions for a visit. Those who follow the program can get to know different themes, media, and artistic positions without the gallery losing its fundamental orientation.

The selection ranges from regional and German-speaking artists to international artists. This mix creates a connection between local anchoring and a broader perspective. Regensburg visitors have the opportunity to view works from their region in connection with international developments. Guests to the city can, in turn, get to know an art venue that connects the cultural uniqueness of Regensburg with a broader understanding of art.

ART AFFAIR presents both established names and young and lesser-known positions. The juxtaposition of different generations can be particularly exciting as it shows how visual languages, materials, and working methods change. A well-known work is not only presented as a prominent individual piece but can also become a reference point for new discoveries. Conversely, young artists benefit from having their works visible in a professional environment.

Forms of mediation include artist talks, which, according to the Regensburg Art Walk, take place for every exhibition. Such talks create direct access to the conditions under which a work was created. Visitors can ask questions about technique, motivation, material choice, or exhibition concept. Especially with abstract, installative, or conceptual works, this exchange is helpful as it opens additional layers without replacing one's own interpretation.

The gallery explicitly sees itself as a place of communication and encounter. This is also reflected in the personal support of interested parties and collectors. A company portrait by the IHK describes the art trade as a particularly personal business, where buyers often seek conversation with the owners or gallery management. At ART AFFAIR, consultation is therefore not only part of the sale but also of the individual engagement with artworks, artist biographies, and exhibitions.

Those looking for a specific work or a specific artist should contact the gallery directly. The website includes sections for the gallery, artists, exhibitions, and art shop. Since stocks and exhibitions can change, a personal inquiry is the most reliable way to obtain current information. For collectors, the gallery can thus be a long-term point of contact, while first-time visitors can benefit from a comprehensible introduction.

ART AFFAIR Photos, Gallery Impression, and Special Atmosphere

The search for ART AFFAIR photos shows that the visual impact of the place plays an important role. Gallery photos document the spaces and convey a first impression of how artworks are presented in the historical environment. However, photographs can only convey part of the actual visit experience. The dimensions of the rooms, the effect of the vault, the tactility of the materials, and the change of light can be experienced more directly on-site.

For the presentation of modern art, the space is not just a background. It influences how large a work appears, how strongly colors work, and how the gaze moves through an exhibition. In the rooms of ART AFFAIR, visitors can experience how contemporary works communicate with historical architecture. A calm painting can gain intensity through the concentrated atmosphere of the room, while a colorful sculpture or an unusual object forms a conscious contrast to the Gothic structures.

The gallery is therefore particularly suitable for people who want to discover art rather than just consume it. The visit can be part of a stroll through the old town, where historical architecture, small alleys, commerce, and culture come together. Neue-Waag-Gasse is located in an area of the Regensburg old town that is included in art guides and cultural tours as part of the local gallery landscape. ART AFFAIR can thus be both a consciously targeted destination and a spontaneous stop during a city visit.

Those viewing photos of the gallery should distinguish between historical room shots, work photographs, and current exhibition images. Not every image visible online automatically represents the current situation. Exhibitions change, works are sold or rearranged, and the lighting mood can change. For current information, the official sections for exhibitions and the official social media channels are better suited than older entries in directories.

Also, for people who want to take photos themselves, a short inquiry with the gallery team is advisable. In exhibition spaces, copyright, personality rights, or special requirements for individual works may apply. Regardless, a direct visit remains the best way to perceive the characteristic connection between Gothic architecture and contemporary art. This combination makes ART AFFAIR interesting as a photographic motif and as a cultural experience.

ART AFFAIR Opening Hours, Address, and Visit in Regensburg

ART AFFAIR is located at Neue-Waag-Gasse 2, 93047 Regensburg, Germany. The gallery is centrally located in the Regensburg old town and is thus integrated into a dense network of historic streets, shops, gastronomy, and other cultural venues. For planning a visit, it is advisable to check the current directions and opening hours in advance, especially if a specific exhibition is to be viewed or a consultation is desired.

The official opening hours are Tuesday to Friday from 11 AM to 1 PM and from 2 PM to 7 PM. On Saturdays, the gallery is open from 11 AM to 6 PM. Additionally, visits by appointment are possible. ART AFFAIR is closed on Sundays and Mondays. The lunch break from Tuesday to Friday should be considered when planning the day. Those traveling from afar or who wish to receive extensive advice can arrange a suitable appointment by phone or email.

The gallery is not a classic event hall with seating, stage operation, or publicly designated visitor capacity. Therefore, there is no conventional seating plan like in a theater, concert hall, or exhibition hall. The visit experience consists of walking through the exhibition spaces, viewing the works, and, depending on the occasion, engaging in conversations with the gallery team or the artists. This classification is important for all those who initially use general terms such as seating plan, tickets, or capacity in their search for ART AFFAIR.

For visiting a regular exhibition, no classic ticket purchase is required according to the available information. ART AFFAIR is accessible during opening hours. However, individual invitations, registrations, or differing regulations may apply for openings, artist talks, or special events. Therefore, it is advisable to pay attention to current notices regarding the respective exhibition.

The gallery can be reached by phone at +49 941 599 95 91. The team can provide information about current exhibitions, available works, artists, opening hours on holidays, and possible consultation appointments. Those interested in a work from the art shop or the exhibition should clarify in advance whether the desired work can actually be viewed on-site before making a longer trip.

Buying Art at ART AFFAIR and Personal Consultation

ART AFFAIR combines exhibition activities with art trade. This means that the offer is not only aimed at people who want to view art but also at those interested in purchasing a work or further developing their collection. The purchase of an artwork is often a personal decision. Size, material, color effect, theme, spatial reference, edition, provenance, and long-term significance can all play a role. A gallery can help to contextualize these aspects in conversation.

Personal consultation is particularly valuable when visitors do not yet know an artist. Information about the working method, materials used, and the context within the overall work can deepen an initial encounter. At the same time, individual perception remains crucial. An artwork does not have to function solely through art historical explanations. Often, the most important access arises from an immediate reaction that can then be described more precisely in conversation.

At ART AFFAIR, different media are part of the program. Those looking for a work for private spaces may be interested in painting, photography, graphics, object art, or sculpture. For business spaces, other criteria such as format, visual impact, lighting, and architectural integration may be more important. Design works can again bridge the gap between art, spatial design, and functional aesthetics. The diversity allows for various needs to be considered without losing sight of the quality of artistic ambition.

The gallery works with regional, German-speaking, and international positions. This allows for the discovery of works by artists who are not permanently present in Regensburg. At the same time, personal contact remains a significant advantage of the location. Visitors do not have to make their decision solely based on online images but can see works in person. Especially with surfaces, colors, reliefs, material thicknesses, and spatial dimensions, direct observation is particularly important.

Those dealing with the purchase of modern art for the first time do not need to have extensive prior knowledge. A visit to ART AFFAIR can begin with an open question: Which work stays in memory, which fits into one's own space, which idea continues to resonate after the tour? The gallery team can then provide information on availability, format, technique, and other details. For binding information on prices or delivery options, a direct inquiry is required, as this information may change depending on the work.

ART AFFAIR as an Art Venue in the Regensburg Old Town

ART AFFAIR is part of a diverse art landscape in Regensburg. The city offers museums, galleries, art associations, and independent exhibition venues that are distributed throughout the old town and adjacent neighborhoods. In this environment, ART AFFAIR takes on a clearly recognizable role: The gallery focuses on modern and contemporary art and presents it in historical spaces with personal support.

For an art walk through Regensburg, a visit to the gallery can be combined with other cultural addresses. The historic city center is compact enough to reach several places on foot. This creates a varied route through alleys, squares, and buildings where different forms of art and design become visible. ART AFFAIR can focus on current art on such a day while also providing a contrast to museum collections or public artworks.

The special charm lies in the combination of city history and the present. Regensburg is known for its historic old town, while a gallery like ART AFFAIR addresses current questions, forms, and expressions. This contrast does not need to be resolved. On the contrary: it can enable a more intense perception. A contemporary work has a different effect in an old space, and the historical architecture is viewed through the lens of contemporary art.

The location in Neue-Waag-Gasse also supports the idea of an open, urban art venue. The gallery is not hidden in a closed museum area but is integrated into the everyday movement of the city center. Passersby, tourists, and regular art visitors can come into contact with the place in different ways. A spontaneous visit can be just as meaningful as a deliberately planned appointment for an exhibition or an artist talk.

ART AFFAIR thus demonstrates how a private gallery can combine cultural mediation, art trade, and exhibition practice. The spaces are small enough for personal conversations and large enough to convincingly present various artistic media. The historical substance gives the place character, while changing exhibitions provide movement. Those seeking modern art in Regensburg will find at ART AFFAIR a place that combines discovery, consultation, and immediate observation.

Customer and artist-oriented support! Mr. Lüttgens maintains contact with his artists in a very trustworthy and authentic way. As customers, we have repeatedly experienced this fully and enjoyed being close to his artists! The location in Munich is very centrally located, making it easy to spontaneously meet new artists. We are really looking forward to the address in Regensburg - which we don't know yet - in autumn 2026. We've heard a lot of good things about it so far!

Favorite gallery! A few years ago, we fell in love with our first artwork here (and bought it - we were wonderfully advised); since then, we've found some great pieces - the represented artists are just amazing. We love coming back.

The current exhibition of works by Elvira Bach is unique in its composition and diversity. The abundance of colors and shapes is overwhelming and feminine. Thank you very much for this beautiful belated birthday gift.
