DOMPLATZ 5 - Information Center | Tours & Opening Hours

DOMPLATZ 5 is the central point of contact for anyone who wants to not only see St. Peter's Cathedral in Regensburg from the outside but also understand it in depth. The Catholic information and visitor center at the cathedral is closely connected to the cathedral chapter and works with around 50 cathedral guides who convey the architectural, artistic, and faith history of the cathedral. Those planning a cathedral tour, have questions about visiting times, or are interested in thematic tours will find first-hand service here. DOMPLATZ 5 is also the booking and information center for other destinations in the immediate vicinity of the cathedral, including document Niedermünster, document Porta praetoria, and the cathedral treasure. The year 2026 is particularly exciting because the program focuses on the 750th anniversary of the Gothic cathedral. This creates a location where information, history, and visitor orientation come together in a compact space. Tours and Tickets at DOMPLATZ 5

Those looking for tours of St. Peter's Cathedral, cathedral tours in Regensburg, or tickets for St. Peter's Cathedral will find themselves directly at DOMPLATZ 5. The visitor center offers classic tours as well as thematic and age-group tailored formats. Particularly important are the offerings for children and families, developed in collaboration with the project Museum for Children. Additionally, there are foreign language tours, pastoral and cultural formats, as well as special events like the Night of Saints. The midday meditations in the cathedral from May to October are also part of the extended offer and show that DOMPLATZ 5 not only relies on tourist information but also conveys the cathedral as a living space of faith and culture. The fact that the tours are conducted by authorized cathedral guides and require registration underscores the official character of the offer. Thus, DOMPLATZ 5 is the right address for anyone seeking a structured and professionally guided access to the cathedral. ([bistum-regensburg.de](https://bistum-regensburg.de/bistum/einrichtungen-a-z/infozentrum-domplatz-5))

Particularly attractive is the connection with other sights and offerings. At DOMPLATZ 5, visitors not only receive tickets for cathedral and church tours but also for tours at document Niedermünster. Additionally, postcards, CDs with recordings of the Regensburg Cathedral Choir and the cathedral organ, as well as art guides to the cathedral and other churches in Regensburg can be purchased there. The annual program for 2026 additionally emphasizes new and proven tours, open regular tours, a free program flyer, and the thematic range from anniversaries to the cathedral organ to children's tours. Therefore, those who want to discover Regensburg culturally and historically will not only find a starting point for the cathedral here but also a building block for a whole visit to the old town. Especially in the anniversary year, this is helpful because the demand for information, bookings, and thematic tours typically increases. DOMPLATZ 5 bundles these needs in one place and makes the visit planable. ([bistum-regensburg.de](https://bistum-regensburg.de/bistum/einrichtungen-a-z/infozentrum-domplatz-5))

Opening Hours and Visiting Times at St. Peter's Cathedral

The opening hours are crucial for planning around DOMPLATZ 5, as they vary seasonally. The visitor center is open from Monday to Saturday from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM from May to October. In the months of November to April, it is open Monday to Saturday from 11:00 AM to 4:00 PM. On Sundays and public holidays, DOMPLATZ 5 is reachable from 1:30 PM to 2:30 PM. These clear times help everyone who wants to pick up tickets, ask questions, or organize a tour on-site. In practice, it is advisable to schedule the visit so that there is enough time for consultation, especially if multiple program points are to be combined. Because around the cathedral, there are not only tours but also services, meditations, and special events that can influence the daily schedule. ([bistum-regensburg.de](https://bistum-regensburg.de/bistum/einrichtungen-a-z/infozentrum-domplatz-5))

The visiting times of the cathedral itself should also be considered. St. Peter's Cathedral is open for varying lengths depending on the season: from April, May, and October from 6:30 AM to 6:00 PM, from June to September from 6:30 AM to 7:00 PM, and from November to March from 6:30 AM to 5:00 PM. On Sundays and public holidays, a visit is only possible from 1:00 PM until closing. During services and special events, visits are not allowed, and there may also be short-term partial closures in the interior. Therefore, anyone wanting to combine a cathedral tour, a quiet visit, and possibly a detour to the cathedral cloister should check the times in advance and plan enough buffer. This is exactly why DOMPLATZ 5 is important as an information center, as it provides not only tickets but also reliable information on visiting times. Directions, Meeting Point, and Parking around DOMPLATZ 5

DOMPLATZ 5 is located at Domplatz 5 in 93047 Regensburg, right in the historic center of the city. This location is therefore ideal for visitors who want to connect St. Peter's Cathedral, the old town, and other World Heritage sites. The location is also well embedded touristically: Regensburg Tourism describes the cathedral as the centerpiece of the UNESCO World Heritage City, and this environment makes the location attractive for day visitors and cultural travelers. For many tours and tour formats, the visitor center itself is the meeting point. This is practical because you can get tickets there, clarify last questions, and orient yourself before the start. So, those looking for meeting point Domplatz 5 or directions to St. Peter's Cathedral are actually searching for a central gathering point for a whole old town tour. ([bistum-regensburg.de](https://bistum-regensburg.de/bistum/einrichtungen-a-z/infozentrum-domplatz-5))

When it comes to parking, the old town location is typically urban and should not be confused with an open space directly in front of the building. As an official solution, the city of Regensburg mentions the Dachauplatz parking garage, which is open 24 hours and serves as an option for drivers in the city center. For tour buses, the city refers to the bus stop Stadtamhof and the free bus parking lot Bäckergasse; the Dultplatz is no longer available for this purpose. Additionally, the city points to the entire parking network of the city center with parking information, parking space concepts, and P+R offers. Therefore, those who want to arrive comfortably should plan for a city center parking garage or a P+R offer for individual visits and pay attention to bus regulations for group trips. For visitors to DOMPLATZ 5, this is important because a good arrival significantly facilitates relaxed participation in tours and events. Accessibility and Comfortable Access

A strong argument for a visit to St. Peter's Cathedral is the barrier-free access. Since 2010, the cathedral has had a wheelchair-accessible entrance, which can be reached via the northern cathedral garden at the northeast corner by the Eselsturm. The path is equipped with large stone slabs to facilitate wheelchair travel, and the door opens automatically via a sensor. This solution is not only technically sensible but also an important signal for inclusion, as it facilitates access to the church space and the cathedral treasure museum. Especially in a historical context, this is remarkable, as it shows that monument preservation and visitor-friendliness can be compatible. Those looking for barrier-free St. Peter's Cathedral or wheelchair-accessible access in Regensburg will find a concrete and reliable answer here. ([bistum-regensburg.de](https://bistum-regensburg.de/bistum/dom-st-peter/gottesdienste/oeffnungszeiten))

In addition, DOMPLATZ 5 supports visitors not only spatially but also organizationally. The staff provide information on service and visiting times, assist in planning the cathedral or church visit, and are available for practical questions. This is especially valuable when groups, families, elderly people, or guests with special needs are on the move. The cathedral is not just a museum but an active place of worship where visiting, liturgy, and visiting logic continually intersect. This is why good coordination is important. So, those who want to not just see but experience with peace benefit from the combination of personal advice, clear opening hours, and the barrier-free path to the entrance. This mix makes DOMPLATZ 5 a truly helpful visitor address. ([bistum-regensburg.de](https://bistum-regensburg.de/bistum/einrichtungen-a-z/infozentrum-domplatz-5))

History, Gothic, and UNESCO World Heritage

St. Peter's Cathedral is one of the most impressive Gothic buildings in Bavaria and is also the only Gothic cathedral in the Free State. Regensburg Tourism describes it as one of the most significant Gothic buildings in Bavaria, as the center of the UNESCO World Heritage City, and as a structure with widely visible towers. Particularly famous are the colorful stained glass windows from the 13th and 14th centuries, which shape the interior and give the cathedral its nickname Cathedral of Light. The cloister with its Gothic ribbed vault from the 15th century and the All Saints Chapel from the 12th century show how many epochs overlap here. For visitors, this means: The cathedral is not only a religious space but a dense history book made of stone, glass, and architecture. ([tourismus.regensburg.de](https://tourismus.regensburg.de/erleben-entdecken/unesco-welterbe-sehenswuerdigkeiten/sehenswuerdigkeiten/dom-st-peter))

The long-term significance of the cathedral is also extraordinary. Since 2006, St. Peter's Cathedral has been part of the UNESCO World Heritage Old Town of Regensburg with Stadtamhof. The cathedral organ is part of the intangible cultural heritage, and the State Cathedral Workshop was included in the UNESCO Register of Good Practice Examples for the Preservation of Intangible Cultural Heritage in 2020. The cathedral is also a place of liturgy, music, and art education. The diocesan website emphasizes that people have been coming together here for nearly 750 years to pray, celebrate services, and experience the beauty of the building. Therefore, anyone interested in history, architecture, and culture experiences a rare density of historical layers at St. Peter's Cathedral. DOMPLATZ 5 is the right starting point because there, history does not remain abstract but is translated into tours, advice, and exhibitions. ([bistum-regensburg.de](https://bistum-regensburg.de/bistum/dom-st-peter/fuehrungen))

Cathedral Organ, Cathedral Cloister, and the Annual Program 2026

The current program of DOMPLATZ 5 shows how lively the location is. For 2026, an extensive annual program titled “In God's Spaces” has been announced, which is under the sign of the 750th birthday of the Gothic St. Peter's Cathedral. The free flyer lists almost daily open regular tours, organ concerts, midday meditations starting in May, a versatile children's program, new thematic tours, and recurring tours in the cathedral cloister and other churches in Regensburg. This is particularly interesting for visitors because it allows a visit to be planned not just as a one-time stop but as a multiple combinable cultural program. For example, those wanting to combine a tour with an organ evening or a quiet midday meditation will find particularly many options in 2026. ([bistum-regensburg.de](https://bistum-regensburg.de/news/domplatz-5-praesentiert-neues-jahresprogramm))

The cathedral organ and the cathedral cloister also play a significant role in the visitor experience. The diocesan website points out that the cathedral cloister has been open for visits again since April 2023 and that from May to October, a tour also leads into the cloister daily. Additionally, tours of the cathedral organ, built in 2009, are offered, emphasizing the musical aspect of the place. Furthermore, the Regensburg Cathedral Choir is one of the special highlights, as the oldest boys' choir in the world regularly sings in services there. This creates a location where architecture, music, and living tradition intertwine. Therefore, DOMPLATZ 5 is more than just a ticket office: it is the organizational hub for the cultural profile of Regensburg Cathedral and a very good starting point for anyone wanting to experience a year of anniversaries in 2026 with content rather than just keywords. ([bistum-regensburg.de](https://bistum-regensburg.de/bistum/dom-st-peter/fuehrungen))

Those who want to plan the visit calmly and meaningfully should consciously combine the various offerings. A possible sequence starts with consultation at DOMPLATZ 5, leads to a cathedral tour with or without the cloister, adds a look at the stained glass windows, and ends with a visit to the midday meditation or an organ concert. Especially in the anniversary year, this mix is particularly strong because it connects the historical depth of the place with a current, well-curated program. This is attractive for families, groups, and individual guests because short and longer formats can be combined depending on the time budget. The official program structure makes it easy to turn a spontaneous visit to the old town into a culturally rich experience. This is where the strength of DOMPLATZ 5 lies: The address provides orientation, the program offers selection, and the cathedral itself delivers the extraordinary atmosphere. You can book cathedral tours here and get information about events and the cathedral. There's a fountain in front on the cathedral square and a statue of Ludwig I. on the side, who contributed a lot to the preservation of the Gothic cathedral.

Very nice location. I recommend starting mom's acquaintance with Regensburg here. To the right of the cathedral, a little tourist tram departs every hour. The tour is available in 8 languages. So everyone can understand. At 12:00, there's a service in the cathedral accompanied by organ music. Highly recommend.

5 stars for the "cathedral tour with cloister" (€10). I was thrilled. Note: This only takes place in the summer! Great tours are also offered on other topics and for specific groups, like families.

A bit of trickery to show even more cathedral pictures from afar and at the cathedral square.
