Borderland Film Days 2026: Three Days of International Cinema in Regensburg
From November 6 to 8, 2026, the 49th Borderland Film Days will take place for the fifth time at the cinemas in Andreasstadel. The three-day film festival brings a selection from the year 2026 to Regensburg and connects Eastern European cinema, border themes, and outstanding films from young German cinema.
Diversity of Films Between Eastern Europe and Young German Cinema
The program includes 22 feature, documentary, and animated films from 17 production countries. The focus is on stories about geographical, political, and personal boundaries. Some of the announced program points include The Odyssey of Joy, Beziehungsweise, 30 Kilo Heimat, ShortCZ, Lonig & Havendel, All Quiet on the Eastern Front, and Care.
Festival Atmosphere in Andreasstadel
The cinemas in Andreasstadel create the perfect setting for an intense multi-day experience: concentrated cinema moments, international perspectives, and discussions about films that resonate beyond the credits. Instead of a large open-air stage, the audience can expect an immediate cinema atmosphere with selected film programs and European festival culture.
A Festival with a Long Tradition
The Borderland Film Days have been held since 1977 and are known far beyond the Franconian borders for their family character and focus on Eastern European productions. The Association for the Promotion of Cross-Border Film and Cinema Culture e.V. organizes the festival on a voluntary basis. The Regensburg edition continues the collaboration with the cinemas in Andreasstadel and the Europaeum of the University of Regensburg.
Program and Visit
On Friday, the guest performance starts at 6:00 PM and ends around 10:30 PM. On Saturday, the cinemas open at 4:00 PM, and on Sunday the program starts at 6:00 PM. Single tickets cost €7.50 and are available at the box office 30 minutes before the first showing during the film days. Payment is cash only on-site.
Conclusion: Cinema as a Meeting Place
The 49th Borderland Film Days transform the Andreasstadel into a meeting point for curious cinema fans, international film culture, and socially relevant stories. Those who want to discover new perspectives, experience Eastern European productions, and immerse themselves in special film worlds for three days will experience a festival in Regensburg with character, diversity, and a personal atmosphere.
